Art historian and former Victoria University lecturer Phyllis Mossman is leading another Renaissance art and architecture tour to Italy in 2019 with a theme of Renaissance Rivalry: art patronage from Rome to Tuscany. It commences in Rome on Monday 16 September 2019 and ends in Florence on Monday 7 October 2019.
The group will visit Rome, Tivoli, Orvieto, Siena, Volterra, Lucca, Florence and several off the beaten track locations in between (including a marble quarry in the Alpi Apuane). Highlights will include Renaissance country villas and gardens and the highly competitive artistic commissions of the Papacy, Medici family and Republican governments.
Optional activities include cycling, wine tasting, cooking classes, guided hiking, the Puccini Festival in Lucca and enjoying central Italian scenery and delicious cuisine.
