In response to demand experience the magic and mystery that is Egypt with ‘friends’ on this exciting second tour, commencing in Cairo on 22nd September 2019.

Te Papa exhibition partner Innovative Travel is offering a tour to Egypt exclusive to the Friends of Te Papa. This tour for Friends offers special features and opportunities including exclusive tomb and antiquity visits and lectures that are not accessible to the normal traveller.

You will be hosted by Rene Wilson, New Zealand’s first resident ambassador to Egypt. Rene’s experience in Egypt, and his interests and expertise from a long and comprehensive diplomatic career, will bring a very special ‘insider’ knowledge that will add to your unique experience and insights during your tour. Rene is supported by Elhamy ElZayat, a key figure for tourism to the region. Elhamy’s role as Honorary Consul General for New Zealand and assistance towards the opening of the New Zealand Embassy, was recognised by the award of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

This special tour will feature a visit to the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza, home to over 5,000 items from the Tutankhamen Collection, opening later this year. Other exclusive highlights include seamless travel in Egypt, being met inside immigration for fast tracking visa applications etc, a special welcome cocktail party ‘in the shadow of the pyramids’, and admission to additional sites that require a special licence to enter. All dinners are included either at historic hotels or amazing local restaurants and also all tipping.

The tour will be limited to 24 to ensure that overall exclusive experience.
