President’s Column: November 2025

Dear Friends

Don’t worry it’s not you, it’s us!

Ever had one of those days when you want to do a simple thing and nothing seems to go to plan?

We are at that moment with the membership button on our website. Over the past few months almost 100 people have tried to renew their membership, only to be ignored.

I am asking you to forgive us and wait a few weeks. We are in the middle of moving our data from the old website to the new one and in the middle of this transition the current website decided to throw a further spanner in the works.

I can assure you the new site will be far better behaved with easy click of the button responses and a far simpler way to book and edit your tickets for events – like you, I cannot wait!

We are in the final stages of arranging our lectures for 2026 and I know you will be impressed with the quality of the speakers, events and activities we have developed for you, your friends and family. We will not tempt fate and advertise these on the current website so keep an eye on the fortnightly newsletters and the Friends of Te Papa website for updates.

Once the new website is operational we will send to you your membership information so you can check it and make sure we have your correct addresses (postal and email), and membership number. I know that many of you have been frustrated about the incorrect information we currently hold and the new website is a way for us to make sure we have all our ducks in a row.

Our new website has several hassle-free features:

  • Improved Navigation: A cleaner, more intuitive interface makes it easier to find resources, manage your bookings, and engage with community content.
  • Enhanced Security: To protect your data and ensure safe access.
  • Mobile Optimization: The platform is fully responsive across smartphones, tablets, and desktops.
  • Streamlined Membership Management: Renewals, upgrades, and profile updates are now centralized in one dashboard for convenience.

Thank you for your patience, support and engagement. We’re excited about what this new platform enables and look forward to building an even stronger community together without buttons that refuse to work.

Warmest regards

Mazz Scannell

p.s. don’t forget the Te Papa Museum shop offers Friends a 10% discount – this is a great place to do your Christmas shopping before the enviable December rush. Afterwards have a great cup of coffee in the cafe– also a proud supporter of the Friends with membership discounts.
