And the winner is……!

And the winner is……!

We are delighted to announce that The New Zealand Art Activity Book, produced by Te Papa Press and designed by Spencer Levine, is the award winner in the children’s section of the Museums Australia Multimedia & Publication Design Awards.

These awards were established to celebrate excellence and quality in the design of publications and multimedia produced for the museums sector. The fun design of The New Zealand Art Activity Book was a winning feature, but it is much, much more than just a colouring-in or joining-the-dots book. The result of testing by real kids and teachers at Te Papa and beyond, it draws on latest educational knowledge and encourages children to learn about the Te Papa collection while interacting with the text and images.

Written and developed by Helen Lloyd, Senior Education Programmer at Te Papa, in consultation with Senior Art Curator, Sarah Farrar, the book includes a wonderful range of drawing activities. Many of them are inspired by paintings, photographs and prints from the national art collection, including colour reproductions of works by artists such as Colin McCahon, Rita Angus and Michael Smither.

The Friends of Te Papa contributed towards the publication cost of the book as part of their ongoing gifting programme and are very pleased to have backed a winner.

Congratulations to Te Papa Press.
