In early April His Excellency Wang Lutong of the People’s Republic of China hosted members of the Friends of Te Papa at a sparkling gala function to celebrate the opening of the two very special exhibitions currently on show at Te Papa, China: Throne of Emperors and Shi Lu: A Revolution in Paint. Held in the Embassy banqueting hall, the evening gave us a wonderful experience of the richness of Chinese culture. As members met with fellow Friends, embassy staff and other invited guests, some of the special pieces on display in the exhibitions were highlighted on a large screen. We then enjoyed a magnificent banquet of authentic Chinese dishes, specially prepared by the Embassy chef. At the end of the evening the Embassy gave each guest a book from a selection on Chinese art, calligraphy and culture. We were delighted with the wonderful support from you all for this event, which will help enable us to continue our gifting support to Te Papa.
