NZ Impressionists and an Italian masterpiece

Thursday 22 March 2018, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

$35.00 – $45.00

This tour is now fully booked.

Join us on a bus tour to Expressions Whirinaki in Upper Hutt to view two stunning art exhibitions.

Pumpkin Cottage: Salon is one fabulous bohemian ‘salon’ hang of all 41 works in the Pumpkin Cottage Collection. Te Papa Art Curator Rebecca Rice will give a tour of the exhibition that features early New Zealand impressionist paintings from artists including James Nairn, Nugent H Welch and Sydney Higgs.

No wonder that enigmatic smile. Hidden under centuries of accumulated grime, yellowing lacquer and oxidation, the Mona Lisa, the world’s most famous painting, holds a secret.  In fact many secrets.  Direct from Paris, the Secrets of Mona Lisa exhibits the findings of French scientific engineer and examiner of fine art Pascal Cotte. Granted unprecedented access by the French Government and the Louvre Museum to Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, Cotte’s painstaking scientific analysis has uncovered 25 startling mysteries and revelations. These are explored using the only 360˚ exact replica of the painting ever made, original archives and memorabilia, and 40 super-magnified sectional images.

Te Papa Art Curator Mark Stocker will talk to the exhibition and together you will discover many never-before-seen details in this much loved painting.  Maybe you will find the answers — who was she really? Why is she smiling? What is she hiding?

Meet at the main entrance to Te Papa. The bus departs at 9:30 am and will return to have you back by 12:30pm.
