The Friends committee Liaison Ann Walker recently hosted Murray Holden, Chair of the Dannevirke Gallery of History, along with nine of their members, for a day trip to Te Papa. The visit primarily covered some key artefacts with Dannevirke connections, including Moa bones from a limestone cave in Coonoor, east of Dannevirke which were purchased in 1914, Huia in Te Papa’s bird collection, and taonga from Te Papa’s Maori Mauturanga collection.
We are most grateful to Dr Colin Miskelly, Curator of Vertebrates; Matiu Baker, Curator Matauranga Maori, Shane James, Kaitiaki Taonga Collection Manager Humanities; and Stephanie Gibson and Katie Cooper, Curators of NZ Histories & Cultures, who all very generously shared time and expertise at various times throughout the day.
We’re very pleased we were able to facilitate this guided tour!
