Judy Turner – textile collector

Te Papa recently acquired a selection of items from Judy Turner’s extensive collection of textiles, which are predominantly from the far East, Asia and West Africa. In conversation with Claire Regnault, Judy will introduce these pieces giving the background stories which represent so intimately other people’s lives.

Very rare indeed

The International History collections at Te Papa include rare and historic objects with global origins, collected during the era of Te Papa’s antecedent, the Dominion Museum. Conservator Anne Peranteau will discuss some of these, focusing on African textiles and collector Desmond Bovey will talk about his interests that led to him building a significant collection of traditional African art.
