John Gillow on Textiles from Pakistan

Sunday 30 November 2014, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Includes a Espresso Cafe voucher for refreshments and free parking

Pakistan and its textiles have long fascinated John Gillow. His lecture will illustrate the rich cornucopia of woven and embroidered textiles that form a vital part of every day rural life and set them within their social and religious context.

Author, lecturer, traveller and collector, John Gillow has spent more than 40 years travelling the world in pursuit of textiles. Besides travelling through remote and sometimes unstable or war-torn areas, John has also written an array of beautifully illustrated books on textiles, including World Textiles, Indian Textiles, Textiles of the Islamic World, African Textiles and Indonesian Textiles. He has been contracted to work for the British Museum and to collect contemporary textiles for the Victoria and Albert Museum. As a dealer, he specialises in unique, vintage and collectable textiles and costumes from around the world. Every two years, John visits New Zealand to lecture and sell his wares.

A selection of over 50 textiles from all over Asia and Africa will be on sale at the conclusion of the lecture.

Registration required. To register, use the ‘Book now’ button or phone the office on (04) 381 7051.
