You are invited to step into the glamorous, if slightly off-kilter world of Yvonne Todd, with Te Papa curator Claire Regnault. While you are enjoying a glass of bubbly, Claire will take you on a high-fashion journey.
Winner of the prestigious Walters Art Prize in 2002, Yvonne Todd is being honoured with a large-scale retrospective exhibition at the City Gallery, Wellington this summer. The exhibition will feature not only over 150 of Todd’s photographic works, but also a display of some of the exquisite gowns that she has collected over the last decade to use in her work.
Claire will provide an insight into Todd’s stunning and surprising collection, which includes garments by Norman Norell, who dressed America’s leading ladies from the 1940s to the early 1970s, and Hollywood costumier Bob Mackie. Indeed, several of Yvonne’s garments were formerly owned by celebrities.
The lecture is followed by a fabulous afternoon tea prepared by Executive Chef Bernd Lippmann and his team.
