In this Art on Thursday talk David Maskill, Friend, art historian and print collector, follows up his sold-out session in 2022 with the second part of his talk on the original fine art print. In part one, David focused on introducing the earliest printmaking techniques – woodcut, engraving and etching. In part two, he focuses on later printmaking techniques – aquatint, mezzotint, wood engraving and linocut illustrated with a selection of works from his collection.
David Maskill is an art historian with a particular interest in the history of original prints. In 2021, he founded MARIETTE PRINTS, a dealership specialising in fine art prints. He is very familiar with the print collection of Te Papa, having led many art history students and Friends of Te Papa through them in the past.
