Hīnātore | Papa Ako: A new approach to museum learning

Thursday 8 July 2021, 7:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$12.00

The development of the former classroom into Hīnātore Learning Lab in 2017 drew on education sector best practice including innovative learning environments, inquiry-based learning, real-world wicked problem solving, and 21st-century learning skills to inspire our learning approach: collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, curiosity, and cultural engagement.

Their learning programmes are specially designed for different groups of learners and are all inspired by Te Papa’s collections and the 21st-century learning skills, using a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) approach that supports learners to make interdisciplinary connections.

Laura Jones (Museum Education Specialist) and Donald James (Learning Innovation Specialist) will lead you in a hands-on, experience based upon their Gallipoli Perspectives programme where you will utilise 3D scanners in groups after viewing one of the larger than life figures in the exhibition.

Laura and Donald have designed Gallipoli Perspectives to take the tech outside of Hīnātore so that it is closer to the exhibition which ensures that there is a strong connection between the tech and the ideas being explored. This programme also allows for participants’ learning to be visible to a wider Te Papa audience.
