Gallery Visit: Toi Koru at Pātaka
Thursday 21 October, 11am - 12pm
We invite you to accompany us on a Member’s Only guided floor talk through Toi Koru: Sandy Adsett.
Reuben Friend, Director of Pātaka Art + Museum, and curator of SANDY ADSETT: TOI KORU, will lead a tour of this major survey exhibition specifically for the Friends of Te Papa. Toi Koru tracks the trajectory of Sandy Adsett’s painting practice from the late 1960s to today. This is the first comprehensive survey exhibition of paintings by Sandy Adsett- the Māori master of colour and kōwhaiwhai– featuring sixty paintings created over six decades. Come and see for yourself what everyone is raving about.
Reuben will share the significance of Dr Sandy Adsett as an artist, and recognise his influence as an educator. Adsett and his peers laid the foundation for subsequent generations of Maori artists, curators, educators and museum professionals to pursue a career in the arts industry.
The exhibition features artworks from major public collections, including Te Papa and Auckland Art Gallery Toi O Tamaki, as well as a new series of paintings created especially for the exhibition.
If you would like to stay for lunch, a table will have been reserved at the on site cafe Kaizan for our group to use at the conclusion of the visit. Refreshments will not be included, so you will pay as you each order.
Please gather in the Spine near the shop in good time to have signed in with the Alert Level 2 Covid requirements before we begin at 11am. Masks will be required. Parking is available on the street and in the rear carpark near the pool complex.
