Curious jewellery

Wednesday 11 July 2018, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$15.00 – $20.00

Justine Olsen, Te Papa’s Curator Decorative Art & Design, discusses why Lisa Walker is so important to us.  Curious and audacious, she has almost reinvented what jewellery is and can be.

Lisa Walker tests your perception of jewellery, inviting you to look closely and think about materials, composition, and making cultural connections. In 2010, Walker won the Françoise van den Bosch Award – the world’s most prestigious jewellery award.

Following the talk you will have time to view the exhibition Lisa Walker: I want to go to my bedroom but I can’t be bothered currently on display in Toi Art on Level 4.  An extraordinary range of Lisa Walker’s works is on display, made from materials including copper, pearls, and pounamu, to found objects like LEGO, cell phones, and egg beaters.

It’s the first time the full scope of her work has been shown, from her beginnings studying in Dunedin until today.
