Silk was and still is a luxury fabric. Silk is a natural fibre which is as strong as steel. The talk will look at the many uses of silk over the decades.

Generally associated with glory, honour and victory, medals also have a darker side, and this lesser known aspect of medallic art is well represented in the British Museum’s collection.
