Curator Talk: Co-Curating the Pacific

At this session we'll hear from 2 of Te Papa's curators about new collaborative methods of acquiring items for the national collection and curating communities histories. Sean Mallon will give us an overview on a few projects the Pacific Cultures team have been undertaking and Claire Regnault will take us on a deep dive into collecting aloha shirts from Hawai'i.

Beyond Te Papa: Mirrors and Torrents, Water in Historic Gardens

In association with The Arts Society of Wellington we bring you the first of our 2 collaborations of 2019 looking at historic gardens from around Europe. Water features have been a key ingredient of garden layouts since the earliest records. Hadrian’s Villa at Tivoli features two canals of immense size, bristling with symbolism in addition to their visual impact.

Local Art Tour – Studio of Elizabeth Thomson

Elizabeth Thomson is one of New Zealand’s leading artists, and has for three decades produced works of technical virtuosity that consider interplay between art and forms of natural science. Elizabeth is a self-proclaimed interdisciplinary and conceptual artist and works with a range of sculpture, painting and photography.

Historic Whanganui Tour

Highlights will include exclusive tours of some of the town’s beautifully restored heritage buildings, including private homes and the recently restored St Paul’s Memorial Church at Putiki, near Whanganui, and behind-the-scenes tours of selected art galleries and museums with specialist local guides and experts.
