Everyday Te Reo ii

Tuesday 5 March 2019, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

This series is fully booked. To add your name on the waitinglist email [email protected].

In 2018 we ran a few successful te reo classes, so for 2019 and to align further with Te Papa’s bicultural mandate we are now offering te reo classes for free! This series is the second of the year and is open to Friends members who have not previously attended sessions.

Joan Costello, Kaiako, Te Papa

Joan, who is Te Papa’s Te Reo Kaiako (teacher) designed the course of three one hour sessions to help people to become more familiar with the pronunciation of Māori, and an understanding of Māori protocols.

Joan’s classes are fun and relaxed and you will find she is very encouraging and supportive with helpful tips for saying it right. The classes will cover pronunciation, useful hello and goodbye phrases, and how to introduce yourself in te reo. You will also get an understanding of what is being said in the wider context e.g. New Zealand place names, what you hear on Radio New Zealand or being part of a Māori mihi.

Classes start at 11am on three successive Tuesday mornings – on 5, 12 and 19 March.

We are extremely privileged to be working with Joan who has over 28 years experience as an educator working with people of all ages.  For the last 20 years she has taught te reo and tikanga Māori to large Wellington organisations and private clients.

Come and enjoy the opportunity to understand more of this beautiful language. The classes are limited to 14 attendees.
