The Art of Remembrance

Thursday 28 April 2016, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

$10.00 – $15.00

032A77724_largePaul Baragwanath, Project Director and Curator for The Art of Remembrance project, will talk about this inspiring and fascinating project, from commissioning the artwork, raising funds, the bronze quatrefoil production, installation on the exterior walls of the church, and then selling and distributing thousands of quatrefoils to their owners around New Zealand and overseas.

Paul said, “The quatrefoils have captured the imagination of New Zealand families wishing to have a permanent ‘artwork of remembrance’ for World War I, created by New Zealanders”.

The Art of Remembrance project is a large-scale WWI commemorative art project that has captured imaginations across New Zealand and internationally.  This project is an initiative of the Friends of St David’s Trust, which Paul founded in 2014 to preserve the historic Soldiers’ Memorial Church in Grafton, Auckland.  The Trust’s aim is for St David’s to continue as a memorial church, and to serve the whole community in diverse ways for the coming century and beyond.

Paul Baragwanath heads ARTTFORM, a specialist art consultancy that provides independent art advice and art-based spatial solutions to individuals, businesses, institutions and not-for-profit entities in New Zealand and Australia.

Following the lecture you will have an opportunity to view the exhibition and the Level 5 store will also be open if you wish to purchase a quatrefoil.  (All proceeds from the sale of the quatrefoils goes to the Friends of St David’s Trust for the restoration of St David’s soldiers’ memorial church in Auckland.)

Door sales welcome.
