
***SOLD OUT****Join Friends of Te Papa for a visit to the Holocaust Centre and Congregation Beth El, the Orthodox synagogue located in Wellington.
Education Director Kris Clancy will guide us through the visit. as we learn about the fundamental tenets of the Jewish faith, including Jewish identity, religious movements, and integration within wider European society. This talk is designed to provide a foundation in understanding why Jews were often separate from the society in which they lived, leading to common misconceptions of the Jewish faith and classical antisemitism that was exploited by Nazi Propaganda. Topics covered include: What do Jews believe? What are traditional Jewish practices? Jewish life prior to the Holocaust. The talk will be followed by a visit to the synagogue.
Location: The Holocaust Centre is located at 80 Webb Street. Please arrive by 10.15 am.
Parking: On-street parking along Webb Street is free but time limits apply. Pay parking is available at Wilson Carpark on the corner of Karo Drive & Victoria Street which the Centre backs on to.
Bus: Stop 6712 Brooklyn Road at Webb Street (Routes 7 and 17) or Stop 7782 Aro Street at Willis Street (Route 25)
