We guarantee you a very interesting and exciting morning when you join us to visit the studios of Max Patté and Virginia Woods-Jack in Miramar.
British-born Max Patté has been based in Wellington for the past 14 years creating a body of work that explores the qualities of liminal space between light and colour. To date, this exploration has been sculpture, painting and light art. His work is held in collections internationally and he has had many exhibitions here and overseas.
Max Patté studied at the Wimbledon School of Art in London (1997-2000) and was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 2008. You will know his iconic sculpture Solace in the Wind which is a much-loved feature of the Wellington waterfront.
Max will talk to us about his work and there will be an opportunity to study various examples of his sculptures and light art.
Virginia Woods-Jack is a British-born photographic artist, advocate and curator, currently living in Wellington. She studied photography at the University of Creative Arts, England, and holds a Masters of Fine Arts with distinction from the CoCA at Massey University.
Her practice explores notions of connection to place, materiality and memory to consider relationships between the human and more-than-human worlds. She is the creator and founder of Women in Photography NZ and AU, and has exhibited widely both locally and internationally.
Virginia will talk about her practice and show some examples of her work.
This is a working studio housing finished works and works in creation alongside industrial equipment. Limited seating will be available. Virginia’s small studio is on an upper floor of the main studio.
The visit is expected to last for an hour or so, and there are cafes in the vicinity for coffee or lunch afterwards.
N.B: Please note that Parking is extremely limited, so expect to park and walk a little distance to the studio. Car sharing would be a good option. The studio is a 5-10 minute walk from Stop 7236 on the # 2 Bus route to Miramar (the last stop on Park Road at No. 91).
