Reading Group: 19 September 2024

Thursday 19 September 2024, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Reading group 19 September:

The wonderful Briony Hogg, owner of Marsden Books will be our guest at the Reading Group next week.

She will be showcasing interesting and popular books from her shelves.

This week’s line-up:

 Fiction:

You Are Here by David Nicholls – This is the story of Micheal and Marnie who are thrown together by a mutual friend to trek through the infamous English coast-to-coast trail. Told in alternating POV between Micheal and Marnie, we fall in love with two witty, lonely, broken, fundamentally loving characters. An absolutely gorgeous book!

Non-Fiction:

A Very French Affair by Maria Hoyle – Maria Hoyle was 63 years old when she decided to follow her heart and dreams to live in an old windmill in rural France with a man she barely knew. Maria’s tale is about grabbing life with both hands whatever your age, what it means to belong, the joys and frustrations of French living, and why you should always look closely at a map before emigrating. Ultimately, though, it is a story about the greatest adventure of all. Love.

An Oldie but a Goodie:

Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman – The Thursday Murder Club is a jaunty and light-hearted cosy mystery focused on four friends living in a retirement village called Coopers Chase who enjoy getting together on Thursdays to investigate and solve cold cases — the Thursday Murder Club.

One day, just before a large new development is soon to break ground in Coopers Chase, the main builder is murdered, with the killer leaving a photograph let next to the body. The Thursday Murder Club immediately gets on the case, but when another body is found, the plot thickens and the group knows they need to find the killer before it’s too late!

Make sure you come early and grab a seat to listen to Ralph Johnson read an excerpt from Richard’s book.

We will meet by the blue couches by the display of the Treaty of Waitangi on level 4 at 1.50pm.
