Local gallery tour – May 2015

Friday 22 May 2015, 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

$10

This event is now fully booked.

241 Cuba Street; {Suite} Gallery
The first exhibition to view is Wayne Youle’s latest exhibition Vacancies in {Suite} Gallery’s new premises at 241 Cuba Street. Wayne Youle uses humour to address issues of identity, race and the commodification of cultural symbols. Youle was the 2010 Rita Angus Artist in Residence and SCAPE Artspace Artist in Residence (2012) in Sydney and his work is represented in major New Zealand art galleries.

147 Cuba Street; Enjoy Public Art Gallery (Access via a steep staircase)
Our visit to Enjoy will include Something felt, something shared: an exhibition of works by Gabrielle Amodeo, Ruby Joy Eade, Clare McLean and Kalya Ward. You will view works that channel strange frequencies through personal narratives and poetic placeholders.

147 Cuba Street; Peter McLeavey Gallery (Access via a steep staircase)
John Reynolds’ exhibition Blutopia in the Peter McLeavey Gallery coincides with John’s publication, with writing by Laurence Simmons, which seeks to unravel the mysteries of blueness. With Blutopia John continues that long tradition of painting in his boisterous exploration of the associations and hues of blue. He exquisitely teases out the contradictions of blue, its mercurial nature, for blue is the colour that both reassures and intimidates us.

NB:  This is a walking tour of the galleries. Limited seating is available.  There will be time between galleries for a coffee break at a local café.

This event is now fully booked. To add your name to the waiting list, email [email protected], or phone the office on (04) 381-7051.
