Come and listen to Karl Maughan talk about his new paintings in an exhibition titled ‘Wellington’. Gardens have been an endless source of inspiration for Karl since he was an art student in the late 1980s. While he continues to paint on a large scale and still has an eye for rhododendrons and curving paths, his view of the garden is changing with more glimpses of the sky and distant landscape. Realism and landscape painting have not been considered leading edge for more than a century, but Karl has no immediate plans to abandon his gardens. They still provide him with an ideal framework for his continued explorations of colour, light, texture and paint itself.
