Join the authors of Holding on to Home behind the scenes in the textile store. Hear their stories about some of the objects from Te Papa featured in the book, including:

  • a black satin apron embroidered in hospital by a recovering soldier
  • a soldier’s ‘housewife/hussif’ (portable sewing kit)
  • the quilt embroidered with the signatures of the crew, along with those of the nursing and medical staff, of the hospital ship Maheno during its first voyage
  • the Union Jack flag said to have flown above the NZ HQ on Gallipoli in 1915 – complete with bullet holes
  • lace and other precious souvenir textiles from Egypt, France and Belgium
