{Suite} and Minerva

Tuesday 22 November 2016, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$15

Hearing artists talk about their art and their point of view is always inspiring.  Our morning tour embraces a variety of art disciplines, painting, assemblage, photography and all things textile.

Above {Suite} and overlooking Cuba Street, the studio of artist Emily Hartley-Skudder is an extremely interesting and fascinating place to visit as it is full of paintings in progress and her collection of artefacts. Emily’s art is mainly painting, but her collection and assemblage of found objects and the thousands of photographs she takes are just as significant as the paintings.

Nearby is the specialist bookshop Minerva. Named after the Roman goddess of wisdom and handcrafts, Minerva is a dedicated textile bookshop and gallery.  Here you will hear from Anne Scott, textile artist, editor, publisher and owner.  Anne has stitched all her life.  In 1987 while living in Singapore, she began quilting and in 1992, Anne founded New Zealand Quilter magazine, a quarterly publication about quilts in New Zealand.  As Editor of New Zealand Quilter, Anne has curated a number of quilt exhibitions and accompanied these to Australia, Canada, the USA, England and France.  Anne has also travelled to Laos many times teaching sewing skills to women with HIV/AIDs.  Anne has collected antique and contemporary quilts and recently her collection of 12 Tivaevae was acquired by Te Papa.

Numbers are limited.  Registration required. To register, use the ‘Book now’ button or phone the office on (04) 381 7051.
