What is the most extreme environment on the planet? It probably isn’t where you think!
Rockpools are places of extreme and rapid changes in temperature, where the living environment can completely change with a single wave! Turbidity, oxygen levels, and other environmental parameters mean the inhabitants are the hardiest and most adaptable on Earth. Join Te Papa Natural History Assistant Curator Andrew Stewart at our Tory Street Facility, as we explore these fascinating, beautiful and unique places, hear about some of the fishes that live there, their endemism and evolution. Around New Zealand nearly three-quarters of these fishes are as unique as a kiwi, or kauri forest, with their origins rooted in the turbulent geological history of Aotearoa.
Please note: This talk will take place at Te Papa’s Tory Street facility.
