Out in the field from ‘100 Natural history Treasures of Te Papa’.
In this fascinating book Te Papa’s science team of experts showcases 100 collection objects. These demonstrate the breadth and depth of Te Papa Tongarewa’s enormous Natural History collection. The objects housed by the museum range from fossilised bones of the extinct Haast’s Eagle and specimens collected on Cook’s first voyage to deep-sea-dwelling fishes and a plethora of insects.
Join us to celebrate the launch of this book to coincide with opening of Te Papa’s new permanent Natural History galleries Te Taiao | Nature. We’ll hear from a variety of speakers involved in the book’s creation, what their role in bringing it together was and what their favourite object out of the 100 presented is. The speakers will take us on a behind the scenes journey to share with us what it’s like to work with such a vast array of science specimens and the processes involved in narrowing down to their top 100 to share photographically in book form. Some of the objects are beautiful, some unique, some with fascinating back stories. Join us and our Te Papa colleagues to exclusively hear more about a select few. Our speakers include:
