Join Kaiwhakarākei Curator Collections Sophie Thorn from Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery on an afterhours tour of the Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington Art Collection. The Art Collection is a nationally significant repository of more than 600 art works by modern and contemporary New Zealand artists. This unique collection has been built since 1947 and is now cared for by Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery on behalf of the Victoria University of Wellington Art Collection Trust. It is hung for the enjoyment of staff, students and the wider public throughout the Kelburn, Pipitea, Te Aro, Auckland and Miramar Campuses. These works form a fascinating backdrop to the fabric of University life, often becoming firm favourites or controversial talking points! Come along to find out interesting titbits from deep in the collection files and what it takes to curate art outside the safety of a gallery space.
