Insights into Ko Rongowhakaata ii

Tuesday 11 September 2018, 9:30 am - 11:00 am

$18.00 – $25.00

A tour with Taharakau Stewart, Pou Tikanga, Rongowhakaata.

Following on from a very successful first tour of the exhibition with Thelma Karaitiana we are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to meet Taharakau Stewart, Te Papa’s Rongowhakaata iwi representative. Taha will follow on from what Thelma shared back in March bringing to you the stories of this dramatic exhibition, Ko Rongowhakaata: The Story of Light and Shadow, how it was developed and what it means to the Rongowhakaata iwi.

Taha will briefly recap what was covered in the previous session by Thelma, but will start his half at Te Wharoa (gateway) of Ruapani. This is the carved wooden entrance way to the exhibition. You will then be introduced to the ancestors and be connected to all the taonga (treasures) in the exhibition. Taha will cover topics including the people, land, history, arts and whakapapa of Rongowhakaata.

Those who were on the first tour will get priority booking for this event.
