Jonathan Campbell is a Wellington-based bronze sculptor whose narrative-rich practice draws on more than three decades of technical mastery, from founding his Lower Hutt studio and foundry in 1992 to casting works for many of Aotearoa’s leading artists and institutions. Campbell’s award‑winning sculptures, exhibited widely over thirty years, explore memory, identity, and public space. His extraordinary work has earned him national recognition including multiple Wallace Art Award finalist selections, a 2023 Taranaki National Art Award win, and recent acclaim for Bronzerrotype. Night Shift in the 2025 Waikato Small Sculpture Award. In his upcoming talk at Te Papa, Campbell will share an inside look at the processes, challenges, and craft behind creating bronze sculpture, drawing on stories and techniques from his decades at the furnace.
