Mark the centenary of New Zealand artist Douglas MacDiarmid’s birth with this back-of-house tour, led by Curator Modern Art Lizzie Bisley.
The 14th of November is the 100th anniversary of the birth of New Zealand artist Douglas MacDiarmid (1922-2020). Born in Taihape, MacDiarmid began to paint in the 1940s when he was a student at Canterbury University. After the end of the Second World War he moved to Paris. MacDiarmid was based in France for most of the rest of his life, where he had an extremely prolific career as an artist.
On this hour-long tour, members will see paintings and drawings from across Douglas MacDiarmid’s life. The tour will be led by Lizzie Bisley, Te Papa’s Curator of Modern Art. As this is a back-of-house visit, numbers are limited.
Members only – tickets include refreshments and free parking
