  • Reading Room, Level 4, Te Papa 55 Cable Street Wellington, Wellington Region, 6011 New Zealand (map)

Join us for a special Director’s Talk celebrating Austen Found, the delightfully improvised Jane Austen musical that launched Penny Ashton’s long-running love affair with the world of Austen. This award-winning and sold-out production has charmed audiences with its quick wit, Regency romance and brilliantly spontaneous storytelling. In this conversation, we’ll explore the origins of the show, the creative process behind improvising an entire Austen-inspired musical, and its enduring appeal nearly two decades after its debut. Hear from the Director behind the production as she shares stories from the stage, reflections on Austen’s influence, and insights into bringing classic literary worlds to life through comedy and improvisation. Starring Penny Ashton, Lori Dungey and Jamie Burgess, Austen Found continues to delight audiences with its unique blend of music, mayhem and passionate handholding. Whether you are a devoted Austen enthusiast or simply curious about the magic of improvisation, this Director’s Talk offers a fascinating glimpse behind the bonnet.

Following the talk, attendees are warmly encouraged to head straight to Circa Theatre should they wish to experience the full production.
