Update from Rick Ellis, Chief Executive

Every day, from my office, I see people streaming into our building. As the Chief Executive of TVNZ, I had the privilege of seeing our programmes go into the homes of New Zealanders. Now I have the pleasure of knowing that people from all over the world are coming to our place.

This is the fourth time I’ve lived in Wellington and it’s changed dramatically. The city of today is vibrant, globally connected and at the cutting edge of digital creativity. That’s where Te Papa needs to be too.

The Te Papa brand is a very powerful one. We are one of the few names that is recognised by all of New Zealand. Internationally we are seen as a leader.

I see a real opportunity for us to build on that name. Te Papa is perfectly positioned to be a world leader in the cultural sector, by expanding our reach online. Through digital platforms we have an even more powerful way to achieve our goal of changing hearts, changing minds and changing lives.

I am currently recruiting for a new head of digital content and strategy and I am seeing some very impressive candidates. The best people in the global museum sector know about Te Papa and want to be part of what we are doing. It’s an exciting time.

I look forward to meeting with the Friends soon and hearing your thoughts on Te Papa’s future. You are passionate supporters of our work. I know you have plenty of insights to share.
