Jim Barr and Mary Barr have known Michael Parekowhai since his last year at art school in 1990. The were also early collectors of his work including the installation The indefinite article, which is now in the Auckland Art Gallery’s collection.
Jim and Mary were constant visitors to Michael’s studio through the whole process of creating his work for the Venice Biennale including the painting (and re-painting) of He kōrero pūrākau mo te awanui o te motu: story of a New Zealand river, the carved piano in Te Papa’s collection. Using photographs, videos and personal recollections they will present an insiders’ view of Michael and his work.
Jim Barr and Mary Barr are art commentators and collectors who also produce the art blog www.overthenet.blogspot.com
